Constitution

Section 1 – Rosters

Subsection 1

All teams will have least

 

  • 2 Team Defenses
  • 5 Defensemen
  • 8 Forwards

 

on their roster at any given time and at most 21 players total on their roster.

Subsection 2

The active roster will have exactly

 

  • 1 Team Defense
  • 3 Defensemen
  • 6 Forwards

 

at any given time.

Subsection 3

The active roster will be set at the beginning of each one week period with unlimited changes from the week before.

Subsection 4

The active rosters for a one week period must be sent via email to the other owners prior to the first game on the first day of a one week period.  If no new active roster is submitted, then the active roster will be the same as the starting active roster of the previous week.

Subsection 5

A team is allowed one switch of an active roster player with one non-active roster player or free agent per one week period.  For the player new to the active roster points to count for the day of the switch, the move must be told to the rest of the league before the time of the games of each player involved that day.  Otherwise, the move will be counted as being done the next day. 

Subsection 6 – The Chris Pronger Rule

Players may be lost or gained through games of skill or chance or acts of God.

Section 2 – Free Agent Acquisition

Subsection 1 – The Ed Jovanovski Rule

A team is allowed unlimited drop/adds of a free agent player for a non-active roster player.

Subsection 2

A team is allowed one move of a free agent into their active roster per one-week period.

Subsection 3 – The Michael Schwalen Rule

A team is allowed to add a free agent that has already been on said team during the current season if no other team claims him within 24 hours of the email reclaiming the player.

Section 3 – Schedule

Subsection 1

The regular season will start with the first game of the NHL regular season and will end at the end at the schedule maker’s decision.  The playoffs will start at the end of the regular season end at the end of the NHL regular season.

Subsection 2

The schedule, the number of head-to-head games, length of weekly periods, length of the regular season, start of the playoffs and end of the playoffs will be determined prior to the start of the NHL regular season.

Subsection 3

Head-to-head games in the regular season will be played in one week periods starting with the first regular season game of the NHL season.

Subsection 4

Two-week periods will be made of two one week periods starting with the first one week period of the season and end with the conclusion of the regular season.

Section 4 – Records

Subsection 1

After the completion of each one week period, the team with the most points in the head-to-head match-up is awarded a win, which is worth two points in the standings.  The team with fewer points is awarded a loss, which is worth zero points in the standings.  In the event of a tie, both teams are awarded a tie, which is worth one point in the standings.

Subsection 2

The team with the most points at the end of a two-week period shall be awarded ten dollars from all other owners in the league.  If more than one team has the most points, then the payment plan is arranged so each winning team is awarded the same amount of money.

Section 5 – Playoffs

Subsection 1

Every team will enter the playoffs.  The seeding is based on the number of points earned in the regular season.  The team with the most points will be the number one seed, the team with the second most points will second seed, and so on.

Subsection 2

In the case of a tie in the standings, the tiebreaker will be determined as so with the first one having the highest priority and the decreasing in priority down the list

 

  • Head-to-head record
  • Point differential in head-to-head match-ups
  • Point differential for the regular season

 

If all of the tiebreaker standards are even, then a coin flip will determine the higher seed.

Subsection 3

The number of teams in the league will determine the brackets, with re-seeding of teams by regular season record after each round.  The brackets will be determined as so:

 

  • Four teams:     1 v. 4               2 v. 3
  • Five teams:      1 v. 5               2 v. 3 v. 4
  • Six teams:         4 v. 5              3 v. 6   (round 1)

1 v. 4               2 v. 3   (round 2)

Subsection 4

The entry fee for the playoffs is twenty dollars per team.  The winner of the playoffs will receive all of the entry fees.

 

Subsection 5

In the case of a tie at the end of a round in the playoffs, the winner will be determined by the team with the most points per player game during that round.

Section 6 – Scoring

Subsection 1

Points for forwards and defensemen will be determined as so: 

           

  • 1 point for a goal
  • 1 point for an assist

Subsection 2

Points for team defenses will be determined as so:

 

  • 3 points for zero goals against in an NHL game
  • 2 points for one or two goals against in an NHL game
  • 1 point for three or four goals against in an NHL game

Section 7 – Trades

Subsection 1

Tradable items are:

 

  • Roster players
  • Future draft picks
  • Cash or cash equivalents

Subsection 2

After the trade, rosters must conform to the standards set in Section 1, Subsection 1 of the Constitution.

Subsection 3

A team may acquire a player that was previously on their roster through a trade.

Subsection 4

There will be a freeze on all trading at the beginning of the playoffs.  The trade freeze will be lifted at the conclusion of the playoffs.

Section 8 – Keepers

Subsection 1 – The Marian Gaborik Rule

Each team must keep at least one player and up to two players from their roster from the previous year at the beginning of the draft.  Those teams only keeping one player will be able to draft a player in the normal draft order as determined in Section 9 Subsection 2 before the first round.

Subsection 2

In years that there is an expansion team, the existing teams will keep only one player.

Section 9 – Draft

Subsection 1

The draft will occur prior to the start of the NHL regular season.

Subsection 2

The playoff results and the records of each team from the previous season will determine the draft order.  The team with the worst record of the teams losing in the first round of the playoffs will get the first pick of each round; the team with the second worst record of the teams that lost in the first round of the playoffs will get the second pick of each round, and so on.  In case of a tie, the same tiebreaker rules will apply as in the Section 5, Subsection 2 of the Constitution.  The winner of the tiebreaker will receive the lower pick in each round.

Subsection 3

The number of rounds in the draft will be the maximum number to acquire the number of players necessary for a roster as stated Section 1, Subsection 1 of the Constitution.

Subsection 4 – The Kyle Nutting Rule

In years that there is an expansion team, the said team will receive the 55th overall draft pick to make up for the lack of a keeper.
